BAH I AM SO FREAKING INSPIRED. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I WANT MY THESIS TO BE ABOUT!!!  THIS GIRL, CANDY CHANG IS SO COOL- TRANSFORMING PUBLIC DISCUSSION+ COMMUNICATION IN NEW ORLEANS!!!! FOLLOW HERRRRR NOWWWW!!

Candy Chang is an artist, designer, and urban planner who likes to make cities more comfortable for people. She’s a TED Fellow, Urban Innovation Fellow, and co-founder of Civic Center and Neighborland. This is her site. Please enjoy.

The project above, Neighborland, is really interesting because it uses the voice of people to highlight their opinions (through physical means) of what they want to see happen in their community.

What if we could easily share ideas for what we want in our neighborhoods? This is the question that drove Dan Parham, Tee Parham, and Candy to create Neighborland, an online tool for people to shape the development of their places. It’s an experiment that takes her I Wish This Was public art project a few steps further to help people voice what they want in their neighborhoods and take next steps to make things happen. It connects residents who want things with likeminded people, resources, and knowledge. It’s a valuable poll for civic leaders and developers to assess what residents want in different places. And it helps reveal neighborhood demands and prove there is a viable customer base for new businesses to open.
